Scanning Services:
If you do not already have a high quality scan of your image
or art work, we are able to provide this service for you. If you are
providing your own files from a flat bed scanner, please note that flat bed
scanners generally produce unacceptable results for small formats such as 35mm.
A high quality flat bed scanner may provide an acceptable scan for medium format
and large format films and for prints and flat art.
-
We can scan 35mm and Medium
Format (up to 6x9 cm, unmounted) slides and negatives at 4000 ppi and with a
Dmax of 42. These scans will produce roughly a 72 MB (24 bit) file from 35mm and
225 MB files from 6x7 cm slides/negatives!
-
We can also provide scans of larger film formats (up to 8x10) and can
photograph flat art and create print files from these photographs. If you need
these services, please
contact us before placing your order or shipping film or
art to us. Our large format scanner has a Dmax of 4.8!
-
We have provided a chart
(at right) showing what we believe to be the maximum acceptable print sizes
obtainable from scans of different format films and digital
captures. The sizes
include a reasonable amount of interpolation. The maximum
acceptable print size is also a function of the quality of the
original, the viewing distance, and your expectations so the chart is simply a guideline.
-
Scan prices are listed on our
pricing page and include
basic color correction to optimize your image for printing. Also
included is burning your image file to a CD ROM. If you
prefer, we can upload your files to our server and send you a
download link for file retrieval.
-
Additional Photoshop time is billed at $100/hour in 1/4th
hour increments and is provided by David W. Kelley, Adobe®
Certified Expert (ACE), Photoshop CS. If, in our opinion, your submitted digital
file would benefit from additional Photoshop work, you will be
notified before printing your project. If you would like to
discuss your Photoshop needs we would be happy to talk with you. In many
cases we may be able to give you an estimate as to how much Photoshop time will
be involved.
-
If you believe you will need
additional large format prints in the future, please ask us to archive a copy of your image.
This will save you from having to send the file back to us for reprints.
There is no charge for this service for up to 2 GB of storage, but you should always keep a copy of the
file or image yourself. Also, we can provide you with additional archival copies of
your scanned file on CD ROM. The cost is $10/CD.
